In some instances, students who do not meet the University’s English language requirements can obtain conditional admission upon participation in the University’s English for Academic Purposes Program (EAPP). EAPP is a two semester program that allows students additional time to focus on English writing, critical reading, and research skills. Emphasis is placed on developing communication skills in preparation for U.S. social and academic interactions.
Students are admitted into the EAPP through the University of Rochester undergraduate application process. There is no separate application for the EAPP. EAPP’s objective is to enhance this international component of the University by strengthening students’ abilities to speak and write English in various academic and social contexts. The Program does this by teaching EAPP speaking & listening and EAPP critical reading, reasoning, & writing courses, organizing social events throughout the year, and encouraging greater cross-cultural exchange through the participation in campus clubs and activities.
